There are many fish in the sea, particularly here in Bulungula. Our trusted guide and fisherman Mkhuseli will be happy to teach you how to catch one (or more, if you’re a natural!). Mkhuseli, who learnt from his dad, a master fisherman, will take you for two hours of angling on the rocks. He’ll show you how to get bait and perhaps even a crayfish. The local people regard crayfish as cockroaches, and no self-respecting fisherman would eat one! More for you, if you like them! He’ll arrange all the equipment for you and teach you how to bait your hook, cast your lines and catch the big one. If you do catch a whoppa, it’s yours to cook and eat. Both local fishermen and guests regularly land some real giants – like in the photo – but of course there are no guarantees in this game. If you prefer to “catch & release”, please feel free to do that! The fish will certainly be happy to released into the ocean again and we have plenty of food prepared by our lovely kitchen Mamas that you can eat instead. Another option to combine two Bulungula experiences is to go on a paddling & fishing expedition down the Xhora river, just half an hour walk from Bulungula. Not only is the river excellent for fishing, but also to spot birds such as the beautiful kingfisher. No matter where you throw your rod, learn to enjoy the wait, watch the dolphins and whales, dream about that fat one that is busy checking out your bait and enjoy the peace. Like surfing, fishing is as much a meditative sport as a physical one.
