The Aquafile Travel Experience in Tooro is a two‑day, community‑run visit hosted by Kitara Foundation that follows water across the Tooro foothills. You move from steaming hot springs to thundering waterfalls and then to crater lakes that rest like mirrors beneath the Rwenzori. Hosts tell the old stories that explain how the springs and lakes came to be. The voices of the community and the landscape are the trip's centre. Local people welcome you into their daily life. Each day you share a communal lunch with families who explain the meaning of the water and the songs that mark each place. Kitara Foundation’s guides and the household hosts explain the cultural uses of springs, the naming of waterfalls, and why the lakes matter to fishing and farming households. What happens: Day one begins at the hot springs, with a short interpretive walk, time to soak where safe, and a guided visit to a nearby waterfall. After a communal lunch you join a longer waterfall walk that includes a supervised swim and a water‑massage moment led by local hosts. Day two moves to nearby crater lakes and lakeshores. You walk the lakeside paths, visit a lakeside village, learn about local fishing and water lore, and take a short boat or shoreline excursion where possible. Each afternoon includes time to ask questions and sit with hosts. Experience highlights: • Hot springs and supervised swims at a waterfall with local water‑massage guidance. • Two communal lunches with host families, each full of stories and songs. • Quiet crater lakes and lakeside walks under views of the Rwenzori foothills. This community visit supports families in Fort Portal and the surrounding villages. It is designed for small groups so the cultural exchanges are close and direct.
