About this Experience

Whileon this guided walk, you will visit the twin lakes of Katinda and Mirambi in Rubirizi situated within the western arm of the East African Rift Valley. Lake Katinda is relatively larger than Mirambi and is known for its tranquil waters and surrounded by lush green vegetation. Visitors can enjoy the sights of birds while relaxing in the very cool environment of the place. Mirambi on the other hand has crystal-clear waters surrounded by beautiful scenery that offers opportunities for nature walks along the lake shores. Like Katinda, Mirambi also has a variety of bird species, including herons, egrets, kingfishers, and others. There is a rich tapestry of local legends concerning the creation of Mirambi and Katinda, however scientific evidence points to a volcanic eruption that happened in the 17th century. Still, visitors can get an insight into them during cultural encounters with the Banyaruguru community.
